The Kaduna State House of Assembly has given a nod to the motion on the need to assess the performance of Business Apprentice Training Centers (BATC’s) in the state.
The sponsor of the motion Honorable Mukhtar Isa Hazo representing Basawa constituency reiterated that the concept for the establishment of BATC’s was to impact knowledge under the skills acquisition arrangement especially in the fields of commerce and engineering.
He pointed out that in the past few years the efficiency of such centers have started collapsing due to factors unimaginable.
Other members that contributed to the motion aligned themselves with the motion adding that if the BATC’s are revived, it will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the teaming youth in the society.
They however raised concerns of funding and qualified teachers to teach the required skills.
Honourable Bityong Yakubu Nkom, representing Kaura constituency who also co-sponsored the motion, urged the House to enlighten the citizens on the notion and the mindset that only students who drop out of school go to such training centers.
The motion has been referred to the Committees on Science and Technology, Commerce and Industry for action and to report back to the House on Wednesday 6th April, 2016.
Similarly, the motion on indiscriminate drying of agricultural products and other household items on the highways, roads and streets in the state was also deliberated upon on the floor of the House.
Honourable Nuhu Goro Shadalafiya who sponsored the motion said the attitude has resulted to loss of lives and properties through accidents and other environmental health hazards across the state.
He added that as representatives of the people, “it is our responsibility to compliment the efforts of the government in safeguarding and protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the state and the nation in general”.
Honourable Idris Abdullahi, Member representing Lere East urged the members to advice the government to embark on enlightenment campaigns in order to educate the farmers on the hazards of drying their produce on the highways.
Similarly, Honourable Halliru Gambo Dangana, Member representing Sanga constituency advised that local government should make provisions for special places for farmers to sell their produce.
While Honourable Isaac Auta Zankhai representing Kauru/Chawai constituency suggested that environmental inspectors be re-introduced to monitor the activities of farmers to ensure compliance.
The motion was referred to the Committees on Environment and Natural Resources, Agriculture and Forestry as well as information and home affairs of which report is expected on the floor of the House on Thursday 7th April, 2016.
