Kaduna Swimming Association has opened camp to groom 12 swimmers ahead of the 7th Chief of Naval Staff open swimming Championship in Cross Rivers State.
Head Coach of the Association, Yahaya Usman in an interview on Tuesday in Kaduna said that the camp is to prepare the swimmers ahead of the competition in Cross Rivers and the Youth Games coming up in Ilorin by August.
The competition is scheduled for May 17 – 23 and will feature swimmers in senior and junior categories.
Usman said the competition would be used for the selection of swimmers that will represent the country at the international competitions such as the FINA World Championship in Windsor and African Swimming Championship in South Africa.
“We are starting the camp early because I want to see my swimmers representing the country at international level.
“We have a very good record in swimming in the different age group that we represent.
“We have been winning laurels in swimming and I believe this competition will make us go further.
“Five of the swimmers representing the senior category are in Delta State now for another training so that they can familiarise with the pool before the competition.
“The camp is an open camp, we will  later go back to a closed one where we will be training morning and afternoon,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the swimmers in junior category will make him proud.
He added that the swimmers will participate in 400m freestyle, 50m breast stroke, 100m back stroke, 200m butterfly, 4x50m mixed free relay and 4x50m mixed medley relay.
