In a swift reaction to tantrums thrown at President Muhammadu Buhari’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, by All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidency has backed the statement that it would take a couple of weeks for the fuel queues to fizzle out.
Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina wasted no time in telling Tinubu that there was nothing wrong in Kachikwu telling Nigerians the truth about the fuel situation, as captured by Channels Television programme Sunday Politics, on Easter Day.
Adesina said that the Minister should not be crucified for telling Nigerians the truth.
He pointed out that Nigerians were unhappy with the statement credited to the Minister because they wanted him to perform magic which would make the commodity readily available in two weeks.
Kachikwu, who is also the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), was reported to have said that he could not perform magic in solving the problem of fuel scarcity, a statement Tinubu considered insensitive and insulting to the sensibilities of Nigerians.
But the Presidency Sunday rose in defence of Kachikwu, saying the Minister was speaking the truth when he said that Nigerians would have to wait till May for the scarcity to go away.
It would be recalled that on Sunday, a prominent Nigerian, Chief Doyin Okupe who was the spokesman to ex President Goodluck Jonathan also backed Kachikwu on his stance.

  1. I think is high time Buhari should hand over the petrol office to Ibe. He cannot just sit there and be monitoring the money in the sector, we want to see the change he promised, for we are tired of setback.
