*Beneficiaries laud Gov Makinde

It was praise galore as farmers in Ogbomoso South, Surulere, and Oriire local government areas of Oyo State on Monday received farm input worth millions of Naira from OYS-Cares in conjunction with World Bank under the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA).
Speaking at the distribution of the farm inputs to as 90 farmers, Oyo State Coordinator for Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-Cares) Result Area 2, Mr. Kolawole Adewumi Bamigbola disclosed that benefitting farmers are from Ogbomoso South, Surulere, and Oriire local government areas.
The N-Cares Result Area 2, Coordinator said the 90 beneficiaries were grouped into two categories of 70 cassava farmers and 20 maize farmers and that “each cassava farmer received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, two bags of NPK fertilizer and one liter of herbicide, while maize farmers, grouped into two, will go home with 10kg of maize seeds, two bags of NPK fertilizer, one liter of post-emergence herbicide, and one liter of pre-emergence herbicide.”
At Iresa-Adu, headquarters of Surulere Local Government Area, 70 beneficiaries received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, two bags of NPK fertilizer and one liter of herbicide each, while in Oriire Local Government Area, 100 farmers of 10 groups comprising of eight groups of 80 cassava farmers, received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, two bags of NPK fertilizer and one liter of herbicide.
Also, two groups of 20 maize farmers received 10kg of maize seeds, two bags of NPK fertilizer, one liter of pre-emergence herbicide and one liter of post-emergence herbicide as farm input to enhance their production.
Chairman of Ogbomoso South Local Government Area, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy in his remarks at the distribution, lauded Gov Seyi Makinde for the intervention.
“You can all see that this Engr. Seyi Makinde-led administration in Oyo State is talk and do government, all these farm input before us are worth millions of Naira and I want to urge you to make good use of them”, he said.
Hon Oyedokun added, ” I’m so happy for you, especially the YEAP beneficiaries, for most of you thought that the governor has neglected you, but as you can see, this is a man that has you on mind, so I expect a lot from you because you have learnt a lot about farming through state sponsored trainings to Nasarawa State. Moreso, you’re young, vibrant, able and agile, so I want you to wake up to the task ahead.
“I want you to make good use of these items to increase your farm products. These items were given to you to ensure food security in our state and to whom much is given, much is expected, so it is time for youth to tell us that you’re not lazy,” he added.
Beneficiaries of the farm assets while speaking with journalists shortly after the distribution, lauded Governor Makinde for the initiative.
A maize farmer, Olusegun Ajao Moses, from Owode Farmers Group in Ogbomoso South, said Governor Makinde has done well.
“We are so grateful, and on behalf of our people we really thank him for this support.” He added.
A casava farmer in Oriire Local Government Area, Mrs. Adebowale Florence said, ” I’m a cassava farmer from Idi-Ayin town, my farm is also located in Idi-Ayin town here in Surulere Local Government Area, I’m so grateful that I’m one of the beneficiaries that received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, two bags of NPK fertilizer and one liter of herbicide, this is so huge and there is no doubt it will enhance my production, I’m so grateful to Engr. Seyi Makinde for this support, we are so proud to be farmers under his administration because of his support always.”
