Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has urged the Federal Government to be more efficient on tackling the issue of security and to be more serious with it.

NUJ also challenged the government to fish out the terrorists who killed worshippers at the Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, and prosecute  them without delay.

The union of journalists expressed the view in a communique issued at the end of its congress held on 11th June 2022.

The group asked government to beef up the nation’s security in order to avert further loss of lives and property.

The union commended the Lagos State Government for the ban placed on motorbikes (okada) transportation in six local governments councils and some local council development areas (LCDAs).

It said that the state government should sustain the enforcement and ensure that the motorbikes impounded should not come back to the road.

The Lagos-based news reporters praised the state government for crushing those motorbikes that were impounded.

Also at the Congress, members of NUJ commended political parties  for the peaceful conduct of their primary elections and urged them to sustain the tempo in the remaining elections.

They called on government not to allow politics to overshadow the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and harken to their demands.

The Congress urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow eligible Nigerians to register.
