Jigawa To Partner  Netherlands To End  Annual Flooding

A team of flood mitigation scientist experts from Netherlands have arrived Jigawa, with a mission in joining hands with the state govt on ways to end the perennial flooding threatening the state annually.

The team leader, Mr Erick Okonde said they were in the state to study the causes of annual  flooding and ways for converting it  to economic prosperity.

He said the team was discussing with the representatives of Jigawa State Government on how to find a lasting solution of flooding.

Mr. Erick who was the chairman of Dustch Nigerian Chamber Of Commerce, assured their commitment to work with the state government to bring to an end the annual disaster.

Speaking, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar  reiterated the present administration’s determination to give them all necessary support with a view to coming up to a permanent solution.

He therefore, directed the state technical team on flood to take a study tour of flood sites across the state for proper assessment in articulation of a formidable  action plan for implementation.

Governor Badaru who described Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar on Thursday, said experts on flood control from the Netherlands are in the state to find a lasting solution to the problem.

The governor who described Netherlands as a country that was known for its long history of over 300 years of flood control.

He further stressed that Jigawa State needs a solution that is cost-effective in terms of flood solution, to put a halt to yearly loss of lives and property.

Badaru said, the floods will be controlled and the water will be stored to be used for irrigation during the dry season.

The governor said that a committee has already been established to handle the current problem, saying the state will work  hand-in-hand with the foreign experts for a remarkable result.
