Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has said that it has submitted its request for harmonization and consequential increase of twenty thousand Naira minimum pension for pensioners by the state government.
Chairman of the union, Malam Umaru Sani Babura made this known at this year’s Pensioners Day celebration held at the union’s secretariat in Dutse.
He said this year’s Pensioners Day with the theme, “Enhancement of Pensioner’s Welfare Through Information Technology” was the 20th in its series as declared by the National President.
The chairman then commended pensioners for their support and cooperation in electing him and the entire council members unopposed on July 15, 2021 and pledged to deliver the goods for the union.
Shedding more light, the union’s state treasurer, Mal. Adamu Ilu stated that, “it is very sad to note that we here in Jigawa State, there are some of our members that do collect three to seven thousand Naira as a monthly pension, a situation he described as very pathetic.
“With this situation, we believe that the Jigawa State Government will look into considering our request of twenty thousand Naira minium pension in Jigawa State,” he said.
It would be recalled that during this year’s Pensioners Day in Abuja, the union’s National President, Comrade Godwin Abumisi called on all state governments in the country and Abuja that are indebted to the pensioners to act promptly in implementing the consequential pension wage package increase as approved by the Federal Government in April, 2019 to pensioners in their respective states.
