Jigawa State Government has approved a lump sum of N1.4bn in the last four months to the state Ministry of Education aimed at constructing and renovating schools, equipping laboratories, among other teaching facilities to 3,000 primary and post primary schools across the state.
Speaking to newsmen during the Correspondent Media Engagement at Manpower Development Institute in Dutse on Thursday, the Commissioner of Education Science and Technology, Dr. Lawal Yunusa Danzomo said part of the money was expended on construction of two three blocks of classrooms, equipped with learning materials, as well as renovation of some of their dillapidated schools.
“Our focus is to offer quality education for quality service delivery, under Education Agenda Initiatives of the present administration.
“This also covers the provision of consistent provision of teaching aides, quality teachers, and learning materials,” he said.
According to Danzomo, they have succeeded in floating effective schools with 70 per cent teaching and learning apparatus.
“The essence is to allow access to education, as we de-board our boarding schools to allow for more intake of successful students,” he explained.
Furthermore, he said that with this achievement, they were able to provide over 85 per cent of the needed Infrastructure in their schools, ranging from building structures, learning and instructional facilities and recruitment of qualified teachers.
Others include building and provision of laboratories equipment for our science secondary schools.
On basic education, he said they were able to equip most of their primary and post primary schools with educational and learning facilities.
On nomadic schools, Danzomo said all their 381 schools have attained 70 per cent patronage operating under a conducive atmosphere, stressing that plans have reached an advanced stage towards the establishment of junior and senior nomadic secondary schools.
He also announced the establishment of nomads mass literacy classes, aimed at integrating religious and Western education learning posture on adult and aged nomads.
Shedding more light on inadequate manpower, he said, “We are on course as we have set machinery in motion which will integrate our teachers, training and retraining of as well as recruiting of more competent hands to support the sector.”
