Jigawa Govt Releases N1.7bn For COVID-19 Care’s Implementation

A sum of N1.7 billion has been approved by Jigawa State Government for the implementation of various platforms of NG- CARES in collaboration with World Bank to attend the challenges of effect of  COVID-19.

Jigawa state Commissioner of Finance, Hon. Ibrahim Babangida Umar disclosed this, while addressing the press  at the Conference Hall of the ministry.

He  said that the primary objective of the programme is to expand access to livelihood support, food security,  provide grants to the poor and.vulnerable households, and the MSME’s. 

Beneficiaries across the three Result Areas ( RA’s) will be drawn from the state approved Social Register in line with the verification protocols.

He gave the breakdown of the disbursement as follows,

Result Area 1 ( Social Safety nets and basic service delivery) where it is expected that over 3,000 vulnerable households would be allocated N365,863,210 million to better their livelihood, in addition to the disbursement of N410,995,790 million  to be spent on youth training development in different skills under the state  Economic Empowerment Programme for self reliance.

The second segment of the programme the Result Area 2 according to him, is on Fadama programme, aimed to.scale up interventions that will help farmers to increase food production and facilitate smooth functioning of food supply chain. 

The interventions in this area include, provision of seeds, fertilizer, agricultural extension services to farmers and opportunities to improve agricultural infrastructure.

According to the finance commissioner, although the programme is designed as performance for result, the World Bank has already advanced the sum of N700 million for the smooth take off  in Jigawa State. 

“This is in consideration of the tight financial situation being experience across the states,” he explained.

He further said that due to  Jigawa State’s commitment, the sum of N1,000,000,000 billion from the state treasury was released to compliment the advance payment in a having the first six months target as approved by Governor Badaru Abubakar.
