JAP Task Religious, Traditional Rulers on Polio Eradication
By; Alex Uangbaoje, Kaduna.
As Polio Immunization for Children between 0-5 years commenced in Kaduna State in an effort to meet the 2017 target for World Health Organization (WHO) to declare Nigeria polio free, Journalists Against Polio (JAP) has charged Traditional Rulers and Religious Leaders to prevail on parents to make their children and wards available for the exercise.
In a press statement signed by the state coordinator of JAP Kaduna State Chapter, Lawal Dogara appealed to the Traditional Rulers and Religious Leaders to ensure parents, especially in the rural areas allow their children to be immunized.
“The Traditional Rulers and Religious Leaders should always continue to educate their followers on the importance of allowing their kids to be vaccinated against polio and other children killer diseases” he said.
Dogara explained that the exercise which the state Primary Health Care kick start on 20th January will be concluded on 26th January 2016.
He commended world Health Organization, UNICEF, state Government and stakeholders for their effort toward the eradication of Polio in the country.
He therefore appealed to the ad-hoc staff engaged for the conduct of Polio vaccination to be sincere in their activities with a view to making the exercise a huge success.
