A Kaduna-based women rights activist, Malextive Abeeikyaa has said that female gender, if given opportunities in governance, will stimulate societal growth and development.

She made the remarks in an interview with newsmen in commemoration of World Women’s Day marked on March 8 every year.

Abeeikyaa who owns a non-profit organization known as Speak4Life submitted that the female gender could be relied upon by virtue of their unique and God-given virtues of compassion, accountability and above all trustworthiness which she noted were basic leadership qualities required in any position for growth and development.

She expressed optimism in the journey so far by various women advocacy groups in the quest to create awareness and seek better deals and relevant elective and appointive positions for women so they could contribute their quota in ensuring a prosperous society within the context of development.

“Women have come a long way in their March to be recognized in helms of affairs and governance in the society.

“A reasonable number of women are now occupying sensitive leadership positions in our society which was not the case in the past.

“If this tempo is sustained I can see us having a female president in the nearest future in this country.

“Women if given the chance could turn around our present conditions of misery and other deficits of governance that have stagnated us from actualizing the dreams and aspirations of our founding fathers who wanted a country of economic prowess, political integration and infrastructural development.

“Good leaders are usually products of responsible homes with decent women who perform their God assigned roles and motherly task of bringing up members of the family in high level of moral standard.

“If women’s roles are extended and affirmative actions adhered to, I believe our society will be a better place for all to live in, “she assured.
