The Chief of Defence Staff General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin said the war against insurgency will soon be over in the country.
Olonisakin, a four star General of the Nigeria Army stated this in Yola, the Adamawa State capital when he commissioned operational facilities and quarters for officers and men of the Nigeria Air Force.
According to him, the Nigeria military is working very hard to ensure that insurgency ends within the shortest possible time, stressing that “we are getting full support from the presidency and we shall soon end the insurgency”.
The CDS noted that the 75 Strike Group of Nigeria Air Force which is the headquarters of the air component of ‘OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE’ and the engine room of the air effort in counter insurgency in the country.
While commending the determination of the Chief of Air Staff for his achievements in such a short time in office, he charged the officers and men of the Air Force to see these welfare gestures as a moral boaster for them to give their ultimate performance.
“l charge you to your best in the service of our father land and I assure you your welfare is our concern, we will also ensure your human capacity building is carried out from time to time so as to meet up with the challenges”, he gharged.
In his address the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar said the Nigeria Air Force is determined to play its part in the fight against insurgency and provide the enabling environment for the officers and men to do their job effectively.
According to him “upon my assumption of office as CAS, I have resolved to do all within my powers to ensure an enabling environment for NAF to fulfill its constitutional roles and accomplish its mission in the most effective and efficient way possible within the available resources”.
He added that “the multiplier effect of high morale on military operations such as going to war against terrors in the North East can not be overemphasized.
“This informed the crafting of my vision to reposition the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force through capacity building initiatives for effective, efficient and timely employment of air power in response to Nigeria’s national security” he said.
“Based on this vision, the NAF embarked on projects that are necessary operational, logistic, administrative and security infrastructure that would enable the unit function optimally while ensuring that lives of its personnel are safe”.
The NAF boss reassured Nigerians that the Nigeria Air Force is fully committed to the successful execution of all its constitutional roles in the ongoing war against insurgency and terrorism.
Adding that “the air operations in the North East have continued to shape the battle space to create an enabling environment for the Nigeria Army to effectively conduct land operations”.
In his remark at the occasions, Deputy Governor Martins Babale who represented the governor, said Adamawa state government will continue to give all necessary support to the military for their effective performance.
“As a government we will not compromise anything that will undermine the security of the state stressing that even though we had insurgent attacks in some part of the state, the military has been doing a great job in combating insurgency”
Projects commissioned includes renovated and refurnished Flight Line House, two newly constructed and furnished office block for Commanding Officers, engineers, technicians and logistics of the 12 Logistic wing, resurfaced Flight line access road among others .
Other projects commissioned are BDCC, CCTV, reactivated Tactical Operations Centre (TOC) and new Ammunition Dump.
The CDS also commissioned the renovated Churches and the base Mosque.
