Sultan of Sokoto, Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar has urged Muslim faithful celebrating this year’s Eid-el-fitr not to travel home unless necessary due to rising insecurity across Nigeria.
Sultan Abubakar who is President-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam in a statement signed by Secretary – General of the Umbrella Muslim organization, Dr Kahlid Aliyu called on Government to tackle what he described as pervasive security challenges, imploring the present administration to heed to different wake-up calls to protect lives and property of Nigerians.
The statement reminded Muslims on the need to give out Zakazul-Fitr to the needy, commencing from Saturday 29 of Ramadan , despite economic challenges faced in the country, saying alms giving to the poor would invite the favours of Allah upon the nation at this difficult time.
” While wishing all Muslim faithful an accepted Ramadan fasting and successful Eid-el-fitr celebrations, JNI reminds Islamic faith adherents not to forget the Sitta-Shawwal fasting that follow the Ramadan as recommended by the Holy prophet Muhammad (May peace be upon him).
” We must keep in mind that the Lord of Ramadan is still and shall remain the Lord of other months, We must therefore, keep to His ordinances as contained in the Glorious Qur’an for the prestige of the Muslim community, ” he said.
The Sultan further called on Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) to urgently resolve their differences so students could resume academic activities, saying the crisis had lingered for too long, depriving learners from graduating to contribute to national development.
” The time has come for all critical stakeholders to nip the crisis of interrupted academic activities in our institutions of higher learning because it is a source of insomnia to parents and students alike.
” Continuous closure of our universities spells doom for our nation and aggravates the current security dilemma in the country.
” We must nevertheless intensify prayers for peace, progress and development of our dear nation , particularly now as We approach the 2023 General Election, ” the statement added.
