Infantino visit: Senate to support independence of NFF, others – Saraki

The 8th Senate will work to develop legislations that are aimed at making the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other sporting bodies more independent.
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki expressed this on Monday, when he received FIFA President, Gianni Infantino on a courtesy visit according to a statement.
He said that in view of that, the Senate would welcome the input of the NFF in this endeavor.
“Today, I had the pleasure of receiving the President of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Mr. Gianni Infantino; the President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Pinnick; and a host of President’s from Football Associations across Africa.
“At our meeting, we discussed ways to improve sports and football in Africa, specifically in Nigeria, in order to provide opportunities and employment that will allow our youths that wish to further their careers in sports, sports development and sports management,” he said in a personally signed statement.
He explained that football is a platform through which Nigeria can achieve a lot.
“Our homegrown talents play in some of the best clubs around the world, hence, it is important that we work to put in place lasting frameworks that will attract the right investments to support and improve our local leagues.
“It is my hope that together, we can create a more enabling environment that will allow sports to thrive in the country,” he added.
