CADP Expends $15.5 M In Agriculture Value Chain In Kaduna State

A total of over 15.5 million dollars has been expended by the Kaduna State Commercial Agricultural Development Project, CADP in improving three main value chain areas in the state, with 3,027 direct beneficiaries captured in the Commodity Interest Groups, CIGs.
This was gathered from the report presented by the CADP State Project Coordinator, Malam Dalhatu Mustapha at the 13th (4th RCADP) Implementation Support Mission, held at the Sardauna Memorial Foundation, Kaduna on Monday.
According to the report, value chain areas are in maize, fruit trees and dairy production.
In an interview with newsmen, CADP Team Leader (FADAMA), Dr. Adetunji Adeleke Oredipe explained that the project was World Bank assisted, and a pilot scheme that is on in Kano, Kaduna, Lagos, Enugu and Cross River states.
He explained that the project started eight years ago with a fund base of 150 million dollars, and has within the period recorded several successes which can be seen mostly in value chain.
“We have been able to empower several farmers, who now sell their products abroad. We also now have many packaged products in super markets,” he added.
Also speaking, CADP National Project Coordinator, Dr. Salisu Garba said that the project has impacted tremendously on farmers, making a lot of them move from being subsistence to commercial farmers.
He explained that along the way, they introduced Youth and Women Empowerment Programme (WYEP)  in which according to the report presented, received  a total of 6,881 applications out of which 3,521 qualified for interviews.
While fielding questions, CADP Kaduna Coordinator admitted that six months to the end of the project, over nine million dollars from the fund earmarked for the state was still yet to be accessed.
“We are optimistic that before the end of the project, we would utilize at least 7.5 million dollars out of what is left,” he assured.
