While condemning the murder of a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, Deborah Samuel Yakubu, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kaduna State chapter has demanded for prayers from its members that God should grant political leaders the will to be fair, just and equitable to all citizens.
The call was contained in a letter addressed to all pastors and church leaders in the state, signed by the Kaduna State CAN Secretary, Rev Ma’aji Caleb, which also ordered that all Christians in the state should be law abiding.
“We strongly condemn this heinous crime against the creator and humanity and pray for the peace of Kaduna State/Nigeria and similarly grant the political leaders the sincere political will to be fair, just and equitable to all the citizenry,” it said.

In the letter titled, “Clarion Call To Be Peaceful and Law Abiding”  CAN urged the pastors to use their pulpits in appealing to members to remain calm.
“Calvary Greetings in the blessed name of Lord Jesus Christ.I have directed to write and appeal to our Amiable Pastors and Church Leaders to continue to use our God given roles and Revered pulpits to appeal to our members to remain peaceful and law abiding as we are always known.
“We are blessed because we are always known for peaceful coexistence (Matthew 5:9),” the letter said.
It pointed out that, “We must refrain from  any act of lawlessness, apply emotional intelligence in the face of challenges and provocation.”
Kaduna CAN Secretary who noted that he wrote the letter on behalf of the state chairman, Reverend John Joseph Hayab, also requested for prayers for the repose of late Deborah’s soul.
“I on behalf of the State CAN Chairman request us to pray for the repose of the soul of our sister Deborah Samuel who was gruesomely murdered by her senseless, inhuman and irreligious perpetrators,” it said.
Furthermore, CAN used  the opportunity to call on the security agencies to  work assiduously to apprehend, prosecute and and hand over  those responsible to justice without fear and favour.

“Wishing you all God’s richest blessings, protection and sustainance in Jesus’ name,” the letter concluded.
