Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has charged matriculating students of Akwa Ibom.State University to ignore Cultism and examination malpractices if they must graduate at the stipulated time .
Speaking during the 11th Matriculation Ceremony at the Main Campus of Akwa Ibom state University , Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin local government area , governor Emmanuel observed that cultism and examination malpractice were the twin evil that ravage academic institutions in recent time, therefore the new student should shun them .
Emmanuel ,who was represented by the Commissioner for Education Mrs Idongesit Etiebet appreciated management of the state owned University for zero tolerance on examination malpractice and cultism adding that such deposition has promoted excellence in the institution.
” Let me appreciate the management of this institution for their zero tolerance on cultism and examination malpractice. It has added value to the training of students here.”
Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Nse Essien said the University has come of age in its 12 years of existence .
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the institution has become one of the fastest in growth and excellence with a vision of sustaining academic standard, promoting a culture of production driven research and practical learning experience
” Within this short 12 years of existence, the university can be said to have come of age as it has recorded tremendous success in various areas of it activities.”
“Today a total number of 2,678 are matriculating into forty programmes in the eight faculties. I congratulate the matriculating students on their success and not to be distracted by bad company, shun cultism and other vices which may lead to suspension , rustication or expulsion from the university.”
