Kaduna LG Polls: APC Lost Chikun Over Unpopular Candidate -Residents

The residents of Chikun local government area today gave reasons they decided to vote for the candidate of People’s Democratic Party(PDP) instead of that of ruling party All Progressives Congress(APC) despite the good works of Kaduna State Government across the State .

According to the residents, from the day Hon. Ekene Adams was denied the ticket of the APC, they were determined to prove a point and tell those responsible for surchange that “Our choice was Ekene not Samaila Leeman.”

Hon. Ekene’s choice would have built a bridge of support and sympathy for APC that cuts across tribe, religion and party lines.Any party that gave Ekene ticket for the local government Election would have won landslide.

Sunday Galadima is a resident of Sabon-Tasha, who spoke to our Correspondent on the reason the electorate and other residents decided to come out en masse against APC Candidate, ” Our decision to vote Ekene was basically because ,we believe he would use the office to better the lots of the people and we expected APC to consider this ,beside the fact that he’s very popular and has helped lots of us and our children which was a plus for APC to win with Ekene .

“We were unhappy and almost lost hope for having a selfless leader with concern for welfare of the poor and masses ,but again we must take our destiny in our hand ,so we opted for PDP to teach APC a lesson .”

Mary Bodam a trader and politician is one the opinion leaders at Goni-Gora . For her , ” Politics is a game of number and it can only make meaning when a popular candidate is allowed to fly flag of a party in any democratic process. For us, we came strong and in good number to make a statement that the power to choose a leader is in the hands of the people and few party leaders.

“We are also happy that the Government of Governor Nasir El-Rufai has demonstrated that the people’s choice can matter if Election are not rigged.

“We can vote and if the Governor like in other State wants to rig and take it all ,it will happen ,but thank you Mal Nasir El-Rufai for being a true democrat”.

Emmanuel Ekweremadu said decision to come and vote was the believe that his vote will count ,he expressed optimism that the E-voting System if properly monitored can make the difference .

According to Ekweremadu, “The introduction and use of electronic voting system really helped to reduce rigging and manipulation of results. And we pray future elections in the State and across Nigeria will reflect the will of the people as was done in Chikun.”

However , while waiting for the official results ,the residents expressed hope that their votes will count and the candidate of PDP would be announced winner of the election.
