In its bid to dominate the 2016 edition billed for Ilorin, the Kaduna State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture has opened camp for 130 athletes ahead of the National Youth Games.
The Director of Sports, Elisha Yashim, disclosed this on Thursday in Kaduna.
Yashim said the camp is an open one for the selection of athletes that will participate in the upcoming events schedule to hold from Sept. 22 at the University of Ilorin.
“This camp is an open one now where almost 130 athletes are participating for us to be able to screen and get qualified athletes that will participate in the up coming events.
“After the open camp, we will also go into a closed one because we want to make sure that athletes are physically fit, technically sound and having good appreciation of the techniques that they have developed to participate in their various games.
He said the state is conscious of the age given to them and will do everything possible to drop all over aged athletes.
“We are very conscious of the age given by the Federal Ministry of Sports and will do everything possible to see that we drop those on over age.
“I know with these trials, we will be able to select them even though it will be very difficult for us to select athletes because most of them have started preparing by themselves before now”.
He added that the state will participate in 12 games with a total of 76 athletes and 25 officials.
Yashim urged all associations to embark on intensive training with the athletes for good results.
“I want to urge all associations to embark on intensive training with their athletes so that when we go into close camp, we will be having three training sessions every day.
The Director expressed optimism on the athletes adding that they will make the state proud.
“I am confident that at the end of the competition, all the athletes will make the state proud by bringing back medals.”
