Former Presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), Dr Olapade Agoro Monday asked Osun State Government to immediately return to the “status Quo Antereturn” on the dressing in public schools in the state prior to Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s policy of school merging.
Dr Agoro stated this in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on the Hijab wearing crisis presently rocking public schools in Osun.
According to the NAC chieftain, the Hijab crisis was as a result of the merging of schools in the state by the Governor Rauf Aregbesola led government during which some Muslims and Christians students were lopsidedly merged.
“Apparently because politics and religion hardly miss well together, the likes of Governor Rauf Aregbesola should be excellent enough submitting himself to be called to order staying off his intermeddling policy of politics with religion, immediately returning Status Quo Ante schools in Osun State to situations they were in prior to his governmental policy of schools merging,” he said.
Dr Agoro stressed that rather than the merging of schools in the state which is presently causing the Hijab crisis, the time has come for the Osun State Government to have a rethink on the merging of schools.
“Let Osun State allow Christian schools to stay and run on Christian ideas and Muslim schools be returned back to Muslims, to be run on Islamic ideas. Let there be brought back love and sanity in the education of our children removing embers of hate in the society”.
On the continued closure of public schools in Oyo State, Dr Agoro said Governor Abiola Ajimobi should “be excellent enough to be reminded that he was elected not to rule the people but only to administratively govern the state for peace, progress and stability and therefore must be ready to subject his ego and pride to wish of the people because of the axiom “Fox Populli – Fox Die” i.e. “the Voice of the People is the Voice of God”.
