As Nigeria celebrates her 61st Independence anniversary, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has restated his commitment to securing the lives and property of his people.

Fintiri who made the promise during the celebration marking Nigeria’s 61st anniversary at the Mahmud Ribadu Square on Friday, said the first two years of his administration were marked by triumphs and tribulations, benefits and burdens but all these challenges has made the state strong, united and prosperous.

He said the Independence anniversary is a moment for sober reflection considering the lives that were loss and security challenges facing the country.”Our sombreness has to do with the crises of insecurity occasioned by the activities of terrorist elements, which have done the unimaginable to challenge our unity as a people.
“On an occasion like this, it is important that we remember all the precious souls that have been lost in the unprecedented war of terror, kidnapping and the menace of Shila Boys and Farmers/Herdsmen crisis before the advent of this administration”, the governor stated.
While commending the men and women of our armed forces whose will has been greatly challenged by this insurgency at more than any other time, since the Civil War, Fintiri promised continued support to Security Agencies in Adamawa State to keep on inflicting devastating blows at the heart of terror.

“Fellow Citizens, it is our collective duty as patriots  to avail our men and women in uniform of all the support they need to fight and win this insecurity ravaging the Country”, he stated.
The governor issued a Stern warning to those involved in unholy activities to embrace peace.
“Those terrorising the people through the guise of kidnapping and Shila Boys or Cattle Rustling do not mean well for anyone; we will continue to deploy our resources in the fight against insecurity”
He therefore urged every son and daughter of Adamawa State to put aside Political, Sectional or other parochial considerations, and support whole-heartedly the efforts of the Government in checking this evil.

Fintiri said his government is focused  on building a new Adamawa that generations yet unborn will be proud of.”Fellow Adamawa residence, the goals we set to achieve for our State involve expanding the frontiers of economic freedom.
“Let us therefore unite with one heart and one mind. All our people must have access to the good things of life. All our people must be empowered to pursue the gift of life with happiness. This is our State; we must build it for our common posterity,”, the governor affirmed.

Earlier Commissioner of information and strategy Dr Umar Garba Pella said Adamawa is poised towards ensuring  lasting peace, unity and development.

State Director National Orientation Agency Salisu Yakubu said the journey so far is good as demonstrated by successive governments lauding all who have stood ground to ensure Nigeria remains an indivisible Nation and commending the success of Fintiri led administration in

New Nigeria reports that the Independence celebrations came Seven years after the last commemoration in the state.

The celebration was put on hold for a long time owing to insurgency  and lack of political will by successive administrations.
