The Chief Medical Director (CMD) with the Bauchi Specialist Hospital, Dr. Zailani Isa has said that the hospital services are greatly improving with the recruitment of more personnel to man the institution.
“Things are much better now, government has given directive for recruitment of additional skilled manpower for the hospital, Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians; we already have approval for that”, he said.
Dr. Zailani Isa revealed that the hospital now has 154 nurses against the initial 92 and the number of doctors has risen from 21 to now more than 35, as the number of personnel will continue to improve to provide adequate services to the people.
The CMD, who was speaking while receiving donation for the hospital’s nursing mothers by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as part of activities marking its week, also debunked insinuations that the hospital arbitrarily increases service charge.
Dr. Isa explained that the hospital receives only token amounts for services being rendered to patients and even admits freely those that cannot afford payment on recommendations of social welfare officers attached to the hospital.
“The social welfare unit is there and then the management of the hospital of course wipe out whatever services we can render free of charge to the less privilege members of the society”, the CMD said.
“And as far as I’m concern and know, there hasn’t been any increase in the fees being charged by this hospital. The fees charge are N100 for card and only N2, 000 for admission which once you pay there isn’t any increment no matter the number of days you take in the hospital and we don’t chase out anybody”.
Dr. Zailani Isa also revealed that the hospital which started functions less than a year now will soon be connected to the national grid that supplies power to the Gubi Dam to discard the erratic power being supplied to the hospital.
In addition, the CMD said, the hospital management recently put proposal for solar power to the state government which when approved would make the issue of power in the hospital a thing of the past.
“The challenges are enormous, however we must provide water, and we must provide electricity to ensure that our machines work, the patients have some breathing space, the theatre is functional, the laboratory services are not completely out of place, and the hospital is doing everything possible to ensure that we provide electricity”.
Dr. Zailani Isa called on organizations and individual philanthropists to emulate the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ to donate more to the hospital especially nursing and expectant mothers to cushion their effects.
The Correspondents’ Chapel had earlier during the day paid similar visits to the Bauchi Orphanage Home and Urban Maternity where it made donations to orphans and vulnerable children, and nursing mothers respectively.
