Following the recent removal of fuel subsidy by Federal Government of Nigeria, a litre of fuel is selling between 500—700 in Abakaliki, while most fuel stations remained closed with few opened for transaction, witnessing long queue of vehicles and motorcycles.
During a visit to most fuel stations in Abakaliki, many cars and motorcycles were seen in a long queue, waiting for their turn to buy fuel as stations like Tycoon, Sharfa, Joak and few others opened for business in the entire state capital.
While others like Conoil, Jesco, Braze oil, Hariz fuel stations, among others didn’t open.
In an interview with some motorcyclists like Nwamgbo Emmanuel, Innocent Anyigor, among others who came to buy fuel, lamented bitterly over the sudden increase in fuel pump price, saying that the situation has brought untold hardship to the people as cost of fuel, foodstuff and other commodities have risen beyond the level of a common man.
They therefore, called on government to take urgent steps to address the situation since people are passing through difficult times.
