The National President, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Architect Kabiru Ibrahim has said that the association was at  the forefront of the advocacy for the attainment of food security in Nigeria in the year 2022.

Kabiru who stated this in an interview with New Nigerian on the association’s 2022 scorecard,  said they took part in the various committees set up by government for creating an enabling environment for the enhancement of productivity in the agriculture space.

According to him, AFAN has been in the forefront of public hearing and subsequent enactment of various acts, such as the ARCN Act amendment, (National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), among others.

The AFAN President said they also  participated in the Kikao Discussions in Nairobi Kenya, the AGRF in Kigali, Rwanda, the Africa Union Commission in Harare, Zimbabwe, the AATF OFAB Awards in ACCRA, Ghana, to mention  a few.

“Also, AFAN has participated and actively played the most important role of spear head the 2022 Annual Agricultural Show and several radio and television programmes to promote agriculture and increase its visibility in Nigeria’s food system.

“AFAN has had its fair share of challenges, due to several threats to the productivity of its teeming Small Holder Farmers (SHFs) and some wrangling caused by some misguided persons, parading themselves as farmer-leaders but who have no followers except a handful,” he explained.

Arc. Kabiru Ibrahim said that in 2023, AFAN expects a proper implementation of the National Agrcultural Transformation and Innovation Policy (NATIP), a better organized Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Anchor Borrowers Programme.

“The association is expecting a more focused and result oriented Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), a better cohesion of farmer groups, a more coherent action by state governments in the attainment of food security for the nation and the stemming of insecurity, as well as more mechanization in the national farming.

“AFAN also looks forward in 2023 to a more unified action from all stakeholders in the Agricultural sector instead of everyone working in silos,” he said.
