Improved welfare will boost Postal Workers Performance – Yakubu

Area Postal Manager, Nigeria Posters Service (NIPOST), Kaduna, ‎Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, has advocated for improved staff welfare for workers in the postal agency ‎in Nigeria for optimal performance.

Mr. Yakubu, stated this in Kaduna, while addressing journalists as part of event to commemorate the ‘world post day’ and to mark his final day in the service‎.
According to him, there is need for an enhanced salary because of the way NIPOST work, saying “if you look at the job NIPOST is doing, we don’t have weekends we don’t have holidays, at the end of the day we are paid civil service salaries.

“If government and management can go a bit further by enhancing the staff salaries, that is to say by removing it from the civil service, because our mode of operation is not a civil service mode operation and if that is done, I want to believe the sky will be our limit.

“So you see, motivation of staff is very important so they can put in their best. NIPOST staff are more hard working than any workers you can think of elsewhere, despite the little pay you find them on the roads 24hrs every day just to ensure we deliver our services to Nigerians.”

The outgoing Postal Manager also charged members of staff to give the requisite cooperation as he received from them to the incoming Manager who will soon take over the affairs of the agency in the state.

He urged them to take advantage of the innovation in the industry, adding “our customers need, however, are changing rapidly, modern information and communications technologies have created a new type of customers, for whom delivering at the doorstep is not enough. They want service when and where they need it.
“While these innovations may be disruptive, we are hopeful that as it happened with other advancements before, the post will turn these challenges into opportunities and stay relevant to its customers.
“To achieve this, the post must continuously transform and find new ways to go beyond simply delivering to the customers’ doorsteps.
“We must work towards creating a postal world where innovation is shared, promoted and delivered; where postal networks are integrated both locally, regionally and internationally; where the post is seen as a vehicle for inclusive development by the governments at all level.
