Tragedy struck at Idi Ose Community in Ona Ara Local Government area of Ibadan on Tuesday evening when a 48yrs old landlord in the area, identified as Popoola Adepoju hanged himself in his room.
New Nigerian gathered that the 48-year-old father of three (a boy and two girls) who was a former staff of the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), reportedly sent his children on errand before locking himself in his room and committed suicide.
Sources said the lifeless body of Adepoju hanging on a rope tied to the ceiling fan was discovered by his wife who was said to have arrived back home later that evening.
According to the sources, the late 48yrs old man reportedly left a three-sheet suicide note which caused controversy between some members of the late Adepoju family and the police as they were said to have refused to release it to the police.
Sources said following the intervention of other landlords in the community, the family later released the three-sheet suicide note to the police after which the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Akanran Division, CSP Aliko Dankoli, directed that the family should go and bury the corpse as requested.
Sources among the landlords in the area said the 48yrs old man may have died out of frustration, saying, “he said on Monday that he wanted to sell his Honda car for N250,000 but that someone who wanted to buy it was offering N150,000. He said he wanted to sell the car so he could buy a small vehicle which he would be using as cab to serve as a sustaining means of livelihood for his family. He however said that the amount being offered was insufficient”.
The source added, “he sometime complained that things are no longer as they were before he was disengaged from work. It was surprising when yesterday evening (Tuesday), we discovered that this unfortunate incident had happened”.
