*Says mechanical deficient vehicle, bad road caused accident

Oyo State Sector of The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Sunday, declared that 27 persons were involved in the Saturday evening Petrol Tanker Fire accident at Ajia junction on the Ibadan-Ife expressway in Ibadan
The command in a, “First Information Report (FIR)” also said only one person was injured in the accident involving four vehicles including a brown Mazda commercial bus marked AGL803XY.
FRSC spokesman for Oyo Sector Command, CRC Mayowa Odewo, in a statement, listed other vehicles involved in the accident as a brown Nissan commercial Micra with registration number BDJ613XY, as well as commercial motorcycles.
Attributing the causes of the crash to, ” MDV – Mechanical deficiency vehicle and BRD – Bad road”, CRC Odewo stated that the injured victim was taken to Toun Specialist Hospital, Iwo Road, in Ibadan”
He maintained that, ” Officers and men of the command are managing the traffic situation by diverting commuters through the alternative routes with other law enforcement agencies, including the Police and Amotekun.
CPC Odewo urged Tanker drivers to be patient and conscious of the size and content of their vehicles.
On his part, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka disclosed that some people sustained minor injuries in the petrol tanker explosion.
“On September 7, 2024, at approximately 5:45pm, a devastating fire broke out inside a petroleum truck”, he said.
Mr Akinyinka added, ” The fire ravaged the pump of the truck, displacing several families and causing significant damage to the property.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by some residents trying to use the leakage opportunities for their use. Damage and Losses: 4 trucks completely destroyed, 1 petroleum truck, 1 18-passenger-bus, 1 small truck, 1 Micra.”
