Former Governor of Imo State and an aspirant for the position of governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has vowed to retrieve from the present governor of the state, Chief Rochas Okorocha, the Eastern Palm University, Ogboko allegedly taken over by Okorocha as his private university if given another chance in 2019 .
According to him, as soon as he is sworn-in as the governor of the state, he would convert the university to the campus of the state owned Imo State University, Owerri.
Former Governor Ohakim said this in Owerri recently while declaring his intention to run for the 2019 Governorship election, pointing out that the Eastern Palm University Ogboko was built by Rochas Okorocha with public fund.
The former Governor who would be running the election on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) also promised to restore the ancestral market called the Ekeukwu Owerri market demolished and relocated by Governor Okorocha.
Further, he promised to re introduce the operation of tricycles in the state capital and environs which was stopped by the present administration of Rochas Okorocha.
He also vowed to recover all public assets allegedly converted to personal property by Governor Okorocha.
According to him, he has all it takes to rebuild the state which he said has been destroyed by the present administration, pleading with the people to give him one more chance.
He said that he has learnt from his past mistakes and promised that he will not repeat them again.
However, responding to the former Governor’s position, Governor Rochas Okorocha described him as a feather weight politician who cannot win any election in his ward.
He said he is ready for probe by any individual or group saying that former Governor Ohakim has become a serial contestant for the governorship position since he was beaten in 2011.
Governor Okorocha said it was an aberration for Ohakim to seek re election without mentioning one single achievement he recorded as the governor of the state .
