Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state on Friday said he never wished President Muhammadu Buhari dead during the 2015 Presidential electioneering campaign.
The governor stated this while speaking on a live phone-in and interview programme of an Ibadan based independent radio station Fresh FM 105.9 monitored by the New Nigerian.
He declared that his messages among others were misinterpreted by those viewing it as if he was wishing General Buhari dead with those messages, saying, contrary to the misinterpretation by some Nigerians, he was only trying to caution Nigerians and as well safeguard the country’s growing democracy.
The governor insisted that he had no personal issue against President Buhari but only has many things against his alleged anti-people policies and programmes most of which he warned Nigerians against during 2015 electioneering campaign.
“I never wish President Buhari dead during the 2015 Presidential electioneering campaign. I have nothing against President Buhari, but if something is not proper, I just have to say it as I see it,” he said.
Governor Fayose stressed that presently, Nigeria’s economy is in a terrible state contrary to what the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun recently referred to as “technically in recession”.
“Nigerians are now suffering seriously, there is nothing like technically in recession economy as recently stated by the Minister of Finance, Nigeria economy is in a terrible state now. There is nothing like such, technically recession is another way of deceiving Nigerians”.
The governor while cautioning the President Buhari led administration to stop blaming the last PDP administration of corruption, declared that majority of President Buhari’s cabinet members were formerly PDP members whose hands have been allegedly soiled but are now saints on crossing over to the APC.
He also asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to stop blaming former President Jonathan of corruption having single-handedly endorsed him to become the President but suddenly fell apart with Jonathan, turned back and supported President Buhari in 2015 elections.
“All the money given to Senators during the third term agenda, where did they come from, the money came from where?”
Speaking on the inability of Ekiti State to pay workers salaries, the governor blamed the situation on the huge debt his administration inherited from the administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi which he put at N31billion commercial loan, N21billion bond among others, saying, since he assumed office in 2014, over N1 billion was being removed from the Ekiti state allocation every month.
Governor Fayose declared that there is the need for the Federal government to ban state governors from burrowing money or taken loans or bond beyond the expiration of their respective tenure to avoid creating problem for their successors.
