Hosts Win Exclusive 2017 Badminton Classics

Hosts Exclusive Badminton Club came from behind to beat visiting Noble Badminton Club, Zaria 2-1 at the final of the Exclusive Badminton Club 2017 Classics, decided at the weekend in Kaduna.

Noble had stunned the Hosts as they won the first set, but cheered on by the home crowd, Exclusive bounced back and won two straight sets to end the game 2-1.

In an interview with newsmen after the final, the Emir of Bade, Borno State, HRH Abubakar Ibn Umar said he was impressed with the improvements he saw at the competition.

“If you see the turn out, it is a great improvement from last year,” he said.

He explained that veterans of the game are putting in efforts that new talents are discovered, so that when they quit playing, the game will still be growing.

Also in an interview, the Chairman of Kaduna State Badminton Association, Mohammed Maina who alongside his partner won the trophy for Exclusive Club, said he was excited about their victory.

Maina described the competition as a huge success, adding that the absence of fights and injuries even makes it more remarkable.

He described badminton as a family game that unites players who come from different backgrounds.

“As a badminton player you cannot be stranded anywhere in the country, because you will meet one player there who would welcome you and see to your welfare,” he added.

High point of the closing ceremony was the presentation of prizes to winners and trophy to the overall winners.

The Emir of Bade was also presented a giant trophy by the club for his tremendous contributions to the development of the game in the country.
