As benefits of working in a cordial and conducive environment between the Executive and Legislative arms of government as it is in Kaduna state, Honourable Ayuba Chawazah representing Chikun constituency in Kaduna state House of Assembly has commended the state Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, for bringing development to the constituency especially the educational sector with new blocks of classrooms built and existing ones renovated.

Hon. Chawazah said this when he took newsmen on an assessment tour of some of the government schools in his constituency as part of his Oversight Functions.

At Government Junior Secondary School Kujama, where a 2 storey block of 12 classrooms was built the legislator enjoined the contractor Tairene Integrated Services Nigeria Limited to hurry up with putting all the furniture and fittings in place before handing the project over

“I can see that classroom furniture are not available yet, the toilets not completed and the borehole to provide water for the students also waiting for completion.”

“Yes the project is in place but I have to see the Bill of Quantities to ascertain what and what is missing and what has been put in place,” he added.

Principal of the school Mr. Ishaku Dan Azumi, urged the lawmaker to help in renovating existing classrooms before the rains come and equally called for additional furniture and learning materials.

“We are grateful to the governor of the state for all he has done, but we need more for our children to learn in a conducive environment,” he pleaded.

Sakin Kujama, Anthony Samari charged the contractor to hasten their job and also lauded the lawmaker while encouraging him the help renovate classrooms destroyed by rainstorms last year.

At UBE Primary School, Karatudu, Hon. Chawazah expressed dismay at the dilapidated structures for classrooms at the school with 4 blocks of 9 classrooms choked with pupils some have to even sit on bare floors.

“Am not happy with what I see here, in fact, I learnt that the fence covering this school came as a result of community efforts, but I am going to use my office to bring immediate solutions. Thank God we have a governor who has a listening ear and also believe in education and bringing development to the state.”

Headmistress of the school Mr. Rahila A. Markus called for additional furniture and learning materials including more classrooms for the school while also thanking the lawmaker for coming to the aid of the school.

Honourable Chawazah at Government Secondary School, GSS, Maraban Rido where he inspected a 3 blocks of 9 classrooms said the furniture and fittings were substandard and vowed to look up the contractor who was accused of taking his phone calls.

“We can see that even the toilets are not obtainable in modern day as the are pit toilets,” he decried.

Stopping over at Government Junior Secondary School, GJSS, Sabon-Tasha to inspect extent of work, the lawmaker discovered that the block of 3 classrooms still needed finishings as learning materials were yet to be put in place and promised to reach the contractor to see the bill of quantity to know what still needed to be done.

Principal of the school Mr. Somo Bulus Zuro called for quick interventions in rehabilitating classrooms destroyed by rainstorms last year while urging the government to help provide more classrooms as some classrooms are choked with about 120 students having to share one classroom and chairs and tables which are inadequate shared amongst the manageable existing classrooms.

“We want more classrooms, our students are packed into one class an are up to 120 in that class, we want damaged classrooms repaired and we also need furniture for the students to learn in a conducive environment,” he requested.

Before rounding off the inspection, Honourable Chawazah at the UBE Primary School 3, Nasarawa said though impressed by the work done by the contractor on a 2 storeys block of 12 classrooms urged the contractor to make repairs on some parts of the building.

According to him, “you can see that there’s a crack in middle from the ground floor to the last floor. No toilets constructed yet and the school needs fencing for protection of teachers and pupils.
