The Head of Technical Committee on Herdsmen-Farmers clashes in Nigeria, Major General Edward Nze has hinted that Federal Government will soon set up ‘Operation Accord’ as a way of finding lasting solution to the herdsmen-Farmers clashes in Nigeria.
Major General Eze dropped this hint in Ibadan during a courtesy call on Governor Abiola Ajimobi in his office at the Oyo State Government Secretariat.
He stressed that President Mohammadu Buhari in his bid to curb the incessant herdsmen-farmers clashes in some parts of the country has ordered the Chief of Defence Staff and Inspector General of Police to wade into the matter.
The Head of Technical Committee on Herdsmen-Farmers clashes in Nigeria stated that “as a result, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Gabriel Olonishakin set up the technical committee to embark on a fact-finding mission to all affected states in order to plan operation that would take care of the menace .
He maintained that the Chief of Defence Staff “is determined to adopt a holistic approach towards proffering lasting solutions to the clashes”.
Major General Nze gave the names of the states so far visited by the committee as Benue, Enugu, Nassarawa, Zamfara, Ondo and Ekiti State.
On the committee’s visit to Oyo State, Major General Nze declared that specific instructions were given on Oyo State to the committee to visit the area where herdsmen- farmers clashes recently occurred.
While frowning at attempts in some quarters to employ self-defence to the clashes, he said such was not in the best interest of Nigeria.
Major Gen Nze however lauded the Oyo State Government for efforts made so far to prevent the crises from escalating in the state.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi while advocating establishment of ranches across the country for gazing and cattle rearing to broker peace between herdsmen and farmers, commended efforts of the Federal Government on the herdsmen- farmers clashes.
