Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani on Wednesday, drew the attention of traditional rulers to the urgent need for them to help develop frameworks for effective intelligence gathering at the grassroots to tackle the challenges of insecurity in Kaduna State.
The governor made this known when he played host to highly respected Kaduna State traditional rulers, led by the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli who were at the Government House in Kaduna.
Governor Uba Sani, thanked them for the confidence they reposed on him, adding that the most important issue he discussed with them is one agenda in their manifesto, which is safety and security.
According to the governor, the revered leaders not only congratulated him on his emergence as the Governor of Kaduna State, they expressed support for his administration and committed themselves to assisting the government to deliver on its SUSTAIN Agenda.
While restating the critical role that traditional rulers play in engaging and mobilizing the citizens for development, he said, “If you look at our manifesto, you will realize that it emphasizes on the issue of citizens.”
He said, “this are the two issues that we must work together, we believe the traditional institutions and leaders are close to the grassroots.
“In Kaduna State, we need the traditional rulers to support the government, and we need to also support them, if we want to support our state.
“We believe we need the traditional rulers, we believe that it is only the traditional rulers that have the knowledge, that is why we want to rely on them.
“However, our security agencies cannot do much without the information, without knowing who is supporting them, hence we will be lacking the intelligence.
“Therefore, our security agencies cannot do much without the information, without knowing who are the real people that are coming to our communities because of problems and this can only be achieved with the traditional rulers,” he said.
According to him, “the second area, which I emphasized to our traditional rulers is the fear of God. I want them to take the message back home, in Kaduna State, we will not discriminate against anyone, we will not treat our people based on religion, ethnicity or political differences.
“Everyone is the same, politics is over, we are most concerned about governance right now and governance means we will be fair and just to everyone.
“And I believe when we are fair and just to everyone, we will have peace in the state. We need their support because they will be the people to take the message back home,” he stressed.
He assured the royal fathers that under his watch, the traditional institution will retain its pride of place.
“I therefore, sought their support and cooperation to enable us quicken the pace of development in Kaduna State,” he explained.
