The Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), has said that it is committed to attaining universal health coverage to all residents of the state by 2030.
Abubakar Hassan, Director General KADCHMA, made this known at a press conference, on Friday in Kaduna, to mark the International Universal Health Coverage Day, with the theme: ” Leaving no one’s health behind: investing in health system for all”.
According to Hassan, the week is to remind governments and stakeholders on the need to meet World Health Organisation (WHO) target of providing all citizens with quality and affordable healthcare.
He said the state’s contributory healthcare scheme was established in 2018 as an integral part of human development and social strategy for all residents.
Hassan said the scheme had reduced government spending on healthcare to the barest minimum, thereby, reducing poverty arising from spending.
He said in line with its mission, the authority since its establishment has commenced provision of sustainable, quality and affordable healthcare services with financial risk protection to residents of the state.
“We are committed to attaining universal health coverage in line with the global aspiration with coverage for all residents by the year 2030.”
“So far, the authority has enrolled 500,000 residents and it targets one million by the end of 2022.
“The authority has outlined several activities for the week, with sensitisation across Kaduna metropolis and Chikun, Kaduna North, Kaduna South and Igabi Local Government Areas.
“We will be putting up stands as part of KADCHMA sensitisation to enlighten people on why they need to key into the health scheme,” he said.
He called on all residents to join in the discussion to know the importance of the scheme to access quality and affordable health care.
