The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), has appealed to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung to intervene in settling the backlog of allowances owed players that participated in the last African Games in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A total of 28 players and two Coaches are yet to be paid their transport and local camping allowances promised them by the Ministry, especially after putting up a good show at the games.
Speaking with NNSports in Lagos, Coach Fidelis Obi said that the initial 28 players were not among those captured to be camped for the games as the directive from the Confederation of African Handball to include them arrived late, one week to the games.
He noted that the President of HFN and the Chairman, Kaduna State chapter of the Handball Association and the former Director General of NSC met and agreed to allow the players, including their two Coaches into the camp, pending approval.
As a mater of fact, their outstanding performance at the end of the games led to the former DG, Alahasan Yakmut, who witnessed some of the matches pledging on behalf of the Commission, to pay the local camping allowances for both the players and their Coaches respectively. He however pleaded with the Minister to address their issue accordingly.
