Gunmen Kill Akwa Poly Final Year Student, Snatch Handset

The Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic community in Ikot Osudua, Essien Udim local government area of the state has been thrown into a sad mood following the gruesome killing of a student by unknown gunmen.

Identified as Saviour, a final year HND 2 student in the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, was shot dead on Saturday night by  unknown armed men who dragged to collect his cellphone and shot him in the process.

The robbers it was learnt, were said to be members of syndicates terrorizing the school environment.

According to the source, the incident occurred at about 8pm at Ikot Uboh in Ikot Ekpene, close to where the student was living.

“In an effort to drag and raise an alarm, the robbers opened fire on him.

“Apart from his phone, the devils took nothing away. I pray may God comfort his mother and siblings and grant his soul eternal rest.

“I urge Akwa Ibom State government and se­curity agencies to fish out those bad elements especially in our institutions in order to ensure peace for our children.” The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said

Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, ASP, who confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate said that the police have swung into action.

“The perpetrators will be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law. It is the determination of CP Waheed Ayilara to rid Akwa Ibom State of criminal elements. And this is not negotiable” John said.
