A group under the auspices of Arewa Youths with Disabilities have vowed to disrupt the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) proposed strike if it insist to shut business activities in the country on Monday.
The chairman of the group, Comrade Sani Mohammed, while addressing newsmen in Kaduna on Saturday assured that they would organize about 20,000 million People With Disability (PWD) to Abuja and other parts of the country to stage a peaceful protest to disrupt the strike, stressing that it is not the appropriate time for the strike.
He explained, “NLC has no reason to go on strike while it is still negotiating with the federal government. Even workers will not be happy because the government is responding positively to the demands of labour. Until all avenues are explored without any way out that labour will think of going on strike.
“The strike if allow to go on will seriously affect people with disability because they are not finding it easy to move from one end to another to earn a living. We know what we normally go through when the organized labour is on strike and since labour has not explore all avenues towards coming to agreement, going on strike now is not the best solution but will further worsen the situation of the workforce in the country.”
He stated that people with disability are not in support of the plan strike, saying that it is going to worsen their challenges they are passing through in different parts of the country.
Speaking about the recent palliatives distributed to Nigerians by the federal government, he lamented that those with disability were not taken care of, alleging that lack of a substantial Minister in charge of the ministry of humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation affected them as there was nobody could represent their interest.
He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to appoint Mrs Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, who has stood behind the people with disability in different parts of the country to take charge of the Ministry to take care of the plights with millions of people with physical challenges.
“Until the right people are given the right places to take care of, the country will continue to face so many challenges because the right people are not given the opportunity to showcase their potentials for the overall development of Nigeria,” he suggested.
