Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State on Monday, witnessed an usual gridlock of vehicular movement and people as the Young Progressives Party (YPP), inaugurated its chapter office located on Aka Road.

Our correspondent observed that for hours, activities on Aka Road, a major entry and exit from Uyo, remained stagnant, while people practically rose in honour of the Party that is seen to be fast growing with members in the state.

YPP leaders seized the opportunity to receive  decampees from other political parties including the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who joined the Party.

State chairman of the party, Apostle Nyeneime Andy who performed the inauguration, said he was not surprised by such turnout of supporters because the people have embraced the YPP as the new way to their liberation.

While handing the party cards to the chapter chairman for registration of all decampees, Andy thanked God for giving him the vision to nurture the YPP which according to him, will produce the next government in the state.

While speaking, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, the gubernatorial candidate of YPP said that the party has grown beyond the people’s expectations.

“YPP has opened 29 chapter offices in Akwa Ibom. The party has grown far and wide;  it is bringing positive change to Akwa Ibom state. YPP will restore the lost glory of Uyo, the capital of our dear state. Very soon, we will move from ward to ward to tell the people of our programmes. That will take place when campaigns start”, he promised.

Former SSA to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Elder Enefiok Ekefre, who in his goodwill message, said the people have concluded to follow the way of YPP,  condemned the manner in which PDP handed over the party structures to governors who destroyed the party. He said since the PDP has disappointed the people, the YPP was the new way to follow.

Speaking, the chapter chairman of YPP in Uyo, Hon. Idorenyin King, thanked all party leaders for their dedication to service, assuring

that the party wass very strong in Uyo and will win all elections.

“Uyo is YPP. Even if we are to contest elections for 100 years, YPP will still win”, he assured.

Hon. Victor Raphael, former chapter secretary of PDP in Uyo, while speaking on behalf of all decampees, thanked OBA and other YPP leaders for their clean records.

“I am standing here on behalf of my colleagues that have left the torn party to align with the YPP to take the state to another hight”, he declared.

On behalf of all non-indigenes in Akwa Ibom State, Chief S. N. Orie, Managing Director Ugo Parkers Transport Company, said after carefully assessing all candidates, they have chosen to support OBA for the office of governor come 2023.

“OBA is a man who loves everyone, a man who takes interest in the affairs of others. We are standing with a man that knows road. All non-indigenes in Akwa Ibom State have come here to endorse Senator Bassey Albert Akpan as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State”, he declared.
