Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has warned government’s Ministries, Agencies and Departments as well as Parastatals and all other employers of labour in the state that are in the habit of rejecting National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Members sent to them for national service to change for good or risk being blacklisted.
The Governor gave the warning Monday at the closing ceremony of the 2016 batch ‘B’ Stream II of the National Youths Service Corps orientation course in Niger state which had about 2,500 Corps Members sent to the state for the one year compulsory programme.
The Corps Members had gone through three weeks training and orientation programme at the camp.
He warned that state government will no longer tolerate rejections of Corps Members by any government establishment or organisation.
He told employers of labour in the state that though the country’s economy was not in a good shape, rejecting Corps members was a disservice to the country.“Government will not tolerate rejection of Corps members by any organization even though we are aware of the harsh economic realities in the country” he said.
Governor Bello assured the Corps members that uttermost attention to their welfare would be made a priority just as he directed Chairmen of local government councils in the state to ensure that they set up an NYSC committee in their respective domains to take care of the interest of the corp members sent to them for their primary assignments.
Adorned in a complete ceremonial regalia of the National Youths Service Corps members, Governor Bello directed the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Hon. Isah Ladan and the state’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Alhjai Musa Bosso to ensure that welfare of Corps Members posted to Ministries, Departments and Agencies, (MDAs) were adequately taken care of.
He enjoined Corps members to act as worthy citizens and great stakeholders by joining hands with state government to improve the living conditions and elevation of the standard of living of the rural communities where some of them are posted to.
The Governor tasked them to embark on viable community development projects that could impact on the lives of the people in their community.
Coordinator of the NYSC in the state, Mrs. Theresa Ibukun Arokoyo said 80 percent of Corps members were posted to serve in the rural areas, especially to schools to teach as part of deliberate policy to root for the development of the education of rural dwellers.
Mrs. Arokoyo appealed to school Principals and Head Teachers to accept and show love to Corp members posted to them and organise induction courses on the rudiments and skills of teaching for them.
She commended Governor Bello’s demonstrative commitment to the completion of the scheme’s permanent orientation camp at Paiko area of the state and praised his support to the scheme in the state.
