Governor Bello Mohammed (Matawallen Maradun) has instituted a monthly Islamic quiz with a total prizes of N5 million to be won every month.
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, made available on May 21, 2020,  he made the disclosure while handing over rewards to winners of the annual Ramadan quiz competition of the day he personally chaired.
The competition is  conducted over the last eight years under the care of the state Ministry of Information and the Zamfara State Radio and Television corporation.
The annual quiz competition is organised in such a way that perticipants engage from their homes via live transmission of the event at the Zamfara State Radio  House. Winners are normally awarded by well-to-do Muslims in the state who are normally invited by the organisers to chair each day of the event.
His Excellency, Governor Bello Mohammed is the first Chief Executive of the state to pick interest in the event and personally chaired one of the sessions. He handsomely awarded all winners of the day’s competition with various prizes.
Those who won the day carted away various prizes including cars, tricycles, sewing machines and various cash prizes ranging from N150, 000 to N300, 000.
Governor Matawalle then, announced his decision to expand the programme to hold monthly instead of annually. “By this decision, I assure you that even if I am not in town, my Deputy will conduct this event”.
To drive home his commitment, Matawalle added, “In the absence of my Deputy, the Secretary to the Government will conduct the event. There will be no failure. The sum of N5 million will be won every month in order to encourage Islamic scholarship among our people” Matawalle promised.
All the 14 winners of the Governor’s prizes, incidentally are, from the poor in the society including an almajiri and a house wives.
