Gov Bello’s Wife Spreads Cancer Awareness Campaign

The Pet project of the wife of Niger State Governor, Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello, Raise Foundation, at the weekend in Minna kick started a five kilometres walk to create awareness against Cancer disease which has remained one of the major causes of morbidity amongst women world wide.
 
The awareness campaign tagged “Walk Against Cancer” is planned by the Raise Foundation to create awareness on how to prevent and or manage deadliest diseases.
The wife of the Governor lamented that the disease has become the biggest cause of deaths amongst women across the world. She however noted that as dangerous as the disease is, it can be prevented or managed if detected early enough.
She said the only fear about it is that there were no known cure yet hence the disease remains dangerous and dreadful.
Amina Sani Bello who is a medical practitioner and the founder, Raise Foundation, however enjoined participants of the five kilometres walk to the walk for cancer awareness campaign as knowledge on how to avoid the disease is the only gateway to get it out of the human body.
 
“Early detection and prevention still remains the only available cure for cancer disease” she said emphatically just as she warned that the disease remains one of the biggest causes of deaths the world over especially in the developing world.
 
Dr. Amina disclosed that “the essence of the walk was to raise and create consciousness amongst citizens about the disease and how it could be prevented. She assured that the exercise would be sustained adding that it is opened to both males and females.
 
The Raise Foundation which was launched two months ago by the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has opened Cancer screening centres in all the three senatorial districts of Niger state as part of the Foundation reach out programme.
 
The wife of the Governor said the disease has rendered many children motherless, many men widowers. She lamented that often before victims go to the hospital, they were already devastated and looking sick such that it is often very difficult to perform any life saving surgical operation on them.
 
The Governor’s wife urged women to go for periodic check to confirm their status. She identified smocking cigarette and use of alcohol as some of the fundamental caustic factors for cancer diseases.
 
Tobacco smoking according to the Governor’s wife is one of the greatest avoidable factors that aid increase in cancer mortality rate worldwide. This avoidable bad habit could cause an estimated 22% of all cancer deaths globally she said.
 
She suggested the ban on tobacco smoking which she said accounts for about 70% of all Lung Cancers. She also advised women against alcoholism as part of the best preventive strategies and control against Cancer.
 
The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Prof. Musbau Akanji who participated in the walk, praised the efforts of the wife of the state Governor. He described the campaign against cancer as timely.
 
He assured the Foundation of the partnership of the Federal University of Technology, Minna to realize its set objectives.
Professor Akanji lamented that FUT Minna has lost some of its best staffers to the dreaded disease in recent past. He called on citizens to embrace the Cancer awareness campaign in order to save lives.
