Gov Bello Reads Riots Acts To Contractors

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has warned all contractors handling renovation work in all public schools across the state to have the fear of God in the execution of the contracts saying it is not business as usual as his administration will not accept shabby job done.
The public schools rehabilitation projects tagged “whole school approach renovation scheme”, is ongoing in some public schools in parts of the state. It is aimed at ensuring that the dilapidated structures, school infrastructures and amenities are replaced  to make learning and teaching under conducive environment.
But the Governor who has been on tour of the council areas in the state inspecting projects initiated by his administration is not satisfied with the quality of work done by the contractors in most of the places he has visited.
Irked by the poor quality of work, and the use of sub-standard building materials by the contractors, the Governor is bearing his fangs against those handling the projects.
At the project sites at Rijau and Kontagora, the Governor warned that his administration will not accept any shoddy work by any contractor adding that contractors found wanting would be blacklisted and prosecuted for cheating the government.
Governor Bello read  the riot act when he visited the Government Secondary School, Rijau and the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Kontagora in continuation of his project assessment and meet the people  tour.

Governor Bello warned that any attempt to compromise standards in all contracts given by the state government would not be tolerated.

He also warned  that government officials and project consultants found to have colluded with contractors in shortchanging the state would be dealt with accordingly.
At the Government Secondary School, Rijau, the Governor condemned the shabby work done by the contractor and ordered him to return to site or risks immediate arrest and prosecution.
“This is not acceptable. The contractor should go and remove everything. “I have directed the Commissioner for Education to set up a committee to look into this project. All government officials who have their hands in this, would be dealt with” he vowed.
He threatened to revoke the contracts from all defaulting contractors and make them cough out all the monies they have collected for the work. “I will not hesitate to terminate the contract and retrieve monies paid to any non-performing contractor,” he vowed.
The Governor also expressed dissatisfaction with the poor quality of work by the contractor handling work at the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Kontagora where he directed the contractor to report to his office in Minna.
“I am not impressed by the quality of work in some schools visited. Some of the contractors failed to abide by the job specifications. This is not acceptable,” the Governor said.
The Governor had earlier directed the Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatima Madugu to summon the contractor handling the renovation work at the Maryam Babangida Girls’ Science Secondary School, Bosso, to his office.
