Governor Hyacinth Alia has said that his administration is working assiduously towards reviving the moribund industries like Taraku Mills and Benue Breweries among others for the general good of the people. In the same vein, the Benue State Governor equally advised the people of the state to form cooperative societies of fifteen members and above to attract support from government for better farming and high yield.
To this end, the governor noted that the state government, through Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) has established bread and water factory to alleviate the sufferings of the people of the state.
“Also to lessen the burden of the Benue people, the state government as Governor Alia disclosed procured 100 busses for Benue Links Company to ease transportation problem as the busses were conveying people both for local and national routes.”
The governor who stated this during the Democracy Day celebration in Makurdi, Governor Alia explained that government when such cooperative societies are formed they should inform the state government as the government was ready to provide tractors, seedlings, fertilizer and herbicide.
He also informed that the arrangement was a deliberate attempt to support the Benue farmers to engage actively in agriculture to ensure food sufficiency which he believed could also serve as economic benefits for the farmers.
According to the governor, it was part of this deliberate efforts aimed at supporting farmers that Government acquired 33 tractors as he insisted that his administration was committed to improving the livelihood of the people the state.
Alia pointed out that for the purpose of high yield the state government on assumption of office procured about 100 trucks of fertilizer and distributed to Benue farmers and informed that government was working toward reviving the moribund State fertilizer blending plant.
Speaking on other achievements recorded, he said that it is for the benefit of the Benue people and to also lessen their burden that the state government decided to register the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Examinations Council (NECO) as well as other similar bodies.
In the area of infrastructure in the state, he disclosed that his administration has constructed about 16 roads in Makurdi among other towns and government has also embarked on construction several other roads totalling up to 400 kilometres to ease movement in the state.
