Georgian Cup: Rubicon back in contention after thrashing Keffi Ponys

By; JACOB ONJEWU DICKSON, Kaduna.
With a comfortable win over Kaduna Keffi Ponys on Tuesday at the Kaduna International Polo Tournament, Guards Brigade Rubicon are back in contention for the 2015 Georgian Cup title.

Rubicon put eight goals past Keffi Ponys, who were only able to pull four back, ending the high-goal six chukker match 8-4.

At the end of the first chukker, both teams tied at three goals apiece. Rubicon however, took the lead in the second chukker, which ended 5-4.

The fourth chukker saw Rubicon scoring a goal, while Ponys failed to find their rhythm, ending it 6-4.

Rubicon added two goals in the fifth chukker, increasing their tally to eight, while Ponys remained goal-shy, ending that chukker 8-4.

The remaining two chukkers produced no goal from both teams, in spite of several good attempts from both sides, ending the game 8-4.

Speaking exclusively to New Nigerian Sports after the game, patron of the team, Minister designate, Senator Hadi Sirika said he was happy about the win. “I feel great about this win. With this there is still a possibility of Rubicon winning the Georgian Cup this year,” he said.

He said that losing to El Amin in their first game on Sunday doesn’t completely put his team off as potential winners of the trophy, adding that though his team lost that match, he was not disappointed. “I didn’t feel disappointed after that win because we played a good game and even outplayed them,” he enthused.
