Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje will on Saturday lead other top government officials including the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awal Zubairu Gambo to declare close the 39th edition of the annual U-16 Ramat Cup football competition for boys presently going on in the ancient city of Kano .
The grand finale which will hold at the Sanni Abacha Stadium will see the host state taking on the Federal Capital Territory in a match which pundits believe will be a display of the best football artistry ever seen in grassroots football tournament in the country.
To get to the finals, Kano State defeated hard fighting Gombe 6-5 penalties after their game ended 2-2 at regulation time while FCT defeated their Ogun state counterparts 2-1 to book a ticket in the finals of the most popular, oldest and most glamorous grassroots football tournament in the country.
Speaking on the finals, National President of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), organizers of the tournament, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna assured football lovers that the players are ready to thrill them with good football even as he commended all the various teams for their discipline throughout the encounter and enjoined the finalists to ensure they play to the rules of the game which the organization is noted for over the years.
Gawuna who also doubles as Deputy Governor of Kano State while commending Governor Ganduje and Kano State Government for their continuous sponsorship of the tournament charged other states to emulate Kano and ensure the development of grassroots sports in the country.
“ I want to assure all the visitors and fans that all arrangements have been put in place for a hitch- free finals and they will be surprised with the type of football artistry that will be on display by the players.
“ We at YSFON are equally grateful to the Kano State Government for being there for us and we look forward to other states emulating what Kano is doing in the area of grassroots sports development’, he concluded.
The tournament is organized annually to honour late Head of State Gen. Muritala Ramat Mohammed. 20 states are participating in the week- long championship which ends Saturday in Kano, the country’s Center of Commerce.
