The Management of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has given the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Biyi Daramola a clean bill over purported allegation of embezzlement leveled against him by the three Workers union of the institution.
Prof. Daramola who was cleared of corrupt charges at a Press Conference addressed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Olatunde Arayela said he has made himself available to and cleared by the Economic Finance and Corrupt Commission (EFCC) which had invited him for interrogation.
According to Prof. Arayela, ”it is the opinion of the University Management that since the Vice Chancellor has not been pronounced guilty by the law enforcement agents, EFCC, he should reasonably and by the provision of the law of the land be adjudged innocent”.
He therefore cautioned that since it is in the opinion of the University Management, that the law enforcement agent, EFCC be allowed to do her job.
His words, ”the University Governing Council, and the University Management led by Prof. Adebiyi Daramola have consistently been mindful in management of men and material resources, prudent spending and accountability”.
It would be recalled that the Senior Staff Union (SSUN), Academic Staff Union of universities (ASSU) and the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) had in the past few weeks called for the removal of the VC, alleging misappropriation of funds.
It was the protest that led to the invitation of Prof Daramola by the EFCC which the Deputy VC, Prof. Arayela has described as ”’misunderstanding among brothers, which can always be resolved internally”.
Commenting on the issue of the Teachers in the Staff school, Prof. Arayela said the Primary and the Secondary Teachers were asked to disengage from the University following a circular from the Federal Ministry of Education that they are not the Staff of the University.
This, he said, is what the VC has done contrary to the rumour that the VC was retrenching the Teachers of the staff school, adding that management has taken measures to ensure the safety of lives and property on the campus.
