The Board of Trustees, Federal University Staff Schools Association of Nigeria (FUSSAN) has appealed to Federal Government to intervene on the threat on the situation of Staff Schools in the Federal Universities by the National University Commission circular to the Vice Chancellors.
Acting Chairman of the Board, Comrade Gimba Alfa who made the appeal in an interview with Journalists in Zaria on the matter, said the National Salary Income Wages Commission has misled the Government that Staff Schools were established by the Universities as private enterprises for revenue generation.
Comrade Alfa said there is no truth in the claim by the NSIWC that there was no agreement between Federal Government and Universities Unions that Staff School should be self funding.
He cited an example of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Staff School that was established since 1954 and it was one of the legacies of late Premier of the Northern Region, Sir, Ahmadu Bello the Sardauna of Sokoto.
The Acting Chairman further called for the withdrawal of the National Universities Commission circular to the Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities.
Also commenting, the National President of the Association, Comrade Chidi Nwankpa of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike called for the reinstating of the Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto teachers immediately.
The President said the associations were anxiously waiting for the Minister’s action on Staff Schools issues.
