Four FGC Oyo students, mini bus driver die in auto crash, five others injured

Tragedy struck in the ancient town of Oyo when four students of the Federal Government College Oyo met their untimely death in an auto crash on Sunday while returning to the school from mid-term break.
New Nigerian gathered that in the autocrash, five others students escaped death but sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
It was learnt that the auto crash involved a mini bus marked Oyo BD J183 XA and a Mercedes trailer marked Lagos 911, EPE 139 XJ AT.
The four pupils died in an accident on FGGC Road at about 3:30 pm on Sunday at a market in Sabo area, said to be a distance of about one kilometre to the school.
Sources said trouble started when the trailer loaded with bags of garri fell on the minibus conveying the students to school, killing the driver along with the students.
Speaking on the death of the four students identified as John Olubukola (SS3), Giwa Taibat (SS3), Ladipo Mojisola (SS1) and Ibirogba Maryam (JS3), the FGC Oyo spokesman, Mr Akin Olumide Omitade, said the deceased students boarded the minibus from Owode in Oyo having arrived from different locations, with a parent accompanying one of them.
The spokesman stressed that the students were heading to the College campus to meet up with a mandate to resume to school before 6.00 p.m on Sunday when they met their sudden death in the auto crash during which they were trapped in the back seat of the bus.
Oyo State Police Command  Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said in the auto crash “four of the students and the bus driver died while five others were injured and were taken to Peamark Hospital, Oyo for medical treatment”, adding that the injured students are responding to treatment.
SP Ajisebutu stressed that the trailer driver is now in police custody while investigation has since commenced on the auto crash.
It was learnt that the four deceased students were buried yesterday (Monday) at the public Muslim cemetery and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) cemetery in Oyo.
