No fewer than four people were reportedly dead in an accident that occurred on Wednesday night along the Abeokuta – Ibadan highway.
The accident was said to have occurred around 10pm at Alakija village near Olodo in the Odeda local government area of Ogun state.
The unfortunate incident involved a cement laden truck with registration number: YKS 194 XA and a white Toyota Picnic passenger space car marked (OYO) BDJ 427 SX.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the accident, explained that the driver of the Toyota Picnic Space car ran into the moving truck from the rear.
According to him, nine persons were involved in the crash, adding that the driver of the Toyota Picnic Space car including three other passengers died on the spot, with three other passengers critically wounded, while the driver and the motor boy of the truck now at large, escaped unhurt.
The TRACE PRO attributed the cause of the accident to over-speeding on the part of the passengers’ space car.
Akinbiyi however told journalists that corpses of the victims have been deposited at the morgue of the State General Hospital in Ijaye, while those who were wounded in the crash were also taken to a private hospital in Odeda town.
