Former civilian governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah has continued to get accolades from tthe people of the state as “an Architect of great repute and a pathfinder of development” which others build on in making Akwa Ibom a destination of choice for investors.
Receiving Obong Attah and other council members of Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA) in his office in Uyo, on a courtesy call, the incumbent governor, Udom Emmanuel said Obong Victor is a man, whom the state cannot forget in a hurry as far as the development of the Akwa Ibom State was concerned, describing him as a gift to the state.
His words, “Akwa Ibom state will continue to be grateful to God for giving it an Architect in the person of Obong Victor Attah to lay the foundation for the development of the state.”
“In Akwa Ibom state, we have very high regards for Architects. What has made Akwa Ibom a must go destination today for people across the globe is the foundation laid by Obong Victor Attah and then the commitment which the Governors who succeeded him have worked to developed the state”, governor Emmanuel added.
Emmanuel who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, promised that government would continue to get inputs from architects and collaborate with them for the development of the state.
According to the Governor, the society has a lot to learn from Architects because the profession requires utmost discipline and creative mindset to be able to do the kind of designs and build the structures Architects undertake.
Reacting to the rousing welcome accorded him and members of the Institute at the government house, Obong Attah said, “It brings back fond memories. I am grateful to God that I can still come back here and be loved by my people.
“I also appreciate God for the grace He gave me to set the foundation upon which the state has continued to develop”, he noted.
Earlier, the national president of NIA, Architect Festus Adibe Njoku commended government in the state for building of the solid foundation laid by the Institute’s member, Obong Victor Attah.
“When you come to Akwa Ibom, you don’t have to think too much to discover what an Architect’s mind can do. This is a State which a creation was very rural but has today become a master piece of beauty. A city people longed to visit”, Arc. Njoku posited.
“It hurts Architects to know that at times when buildings meant for sensitive business of state security are designed, government is not so careful to know the implications of hiring foreign Architects. It is the Nigerian that will do everything to protect internal security of its nation that is why Nigerian Architects should be given first place in the hiring of Architects to do projects,” he stressed.
He called on other state governors to in the country to avail themselves of the huge experience, hard work, brilliance and tenacity of Nigerian Architects in their determination to the development their states and nation.
NIA members were in the state for the council meeting which took place in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
